Creating A Symphony
Have
you ever wanted to create a masterpiece? A work of art that leaves
an indelible mark, one that would be celebrated through the ages?
It could be a sculpture, a song or musical score, a film or even
a novel. Do you still yearn to create this work of art even after
years of toil? There are many of us who struggle with these unquenchable
aspirations.
The inspiration to write this testimony came from an old journal of mine. It was dated May 16, 2004 entitled: He's Creating a Symphony. The catalyst for this particular journal entry was the film, Mr. Holland's Opus.
Ms. Lang, a young ginger-haired high school student was also one of his private students. Ms. Lang had a very difficult time learning to play the clarinet. At one point during her lesson Mr. Holland finally said, 'Give it up Ms. Lang'. She was pretty awful yet she was determined to continue until she mastered her instrument.
Years later Ms. Lang is asked to speak at Mr. Holland's going away party. She tells the audience that he has been working on a piece of music for a number of years but was never quite able to finish it. She then instructed him to look around at all the students he has taught over the years. She proceeds to says, 'We are your symphony, Mr. Holland, your opus. We are the music of your life.'
As the Bible says, 'We are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works.' (Ephesians 2:10). In order to find the proper expression of one's art there are two main requirements. First you must know who you are, your unique identity in Christ. Second you must also know your message. What are you specifically meant to communicate through your masterpiece?
These two paramount components can only be answered with the cross. Dying to self so that the true "you" will remain. Allowing yourself also to be tried by fire so that you will be fit for the Master's use. With all that you are suffering remember this, Father God is creating you to be his Opus so that your life can sing His glorious symphony.
